Đến nay, nguồn gốc của những con thỏ trên đảo vẫn còn là ẩn số. Tuy nhiên giả thuyết được nhiều người công nhận nhất là vào năm 1971, một nhóm học sinh trong chuyến đi cùng trường tới đây đã đem theo vài con thỏ. Dần dần, số thỏ tăng lên và lan ra sống khắp đảo.
Những con thỏ trên đảo đều rất dạn người và thích lại gần khách để xin ăn. Dù không cần người chăm sóc, các con thỏ vẫn có thể sống thoải mái nhờ vào nguồn thức ăn đến từ khách tham quan.
Du khách nên mua sẵn đồ ăn cho thỏ ở siêu thị trước khi lên đảo. Bạn có thể chơi đùa, bế các con thỏ nhưng không được mang theo chó, mèo hay bắt thỏ mang về đất liền… vì đây là quy định của chính phủ.

Ngoài việc mua những gói thức ăn cho thỏ, chơi đùa cùng chúng, bạn có thể ghé thăm Bảo tàng Khí độc để tìm hiểu thêm về lịch sử của hòn đảo, đi dọc trên những con đường mòn ven biển, ngắm núi rừng hoặc tắm biển. Trên đảo có quán cà phê phục vụ khách, nhưng số lượng không nhiều. Tại đây, người dân bán các món đồ lưu niệm nhỏ để mua về làm quà. Đảo nhỏ nên du khách mất khoảng 1,5 tiếng là có thể tham quan, khám phá hết.
Du khách lưu ý không nên ôm ấp thỏ, dù được phép. Chúng đều là thỏ hoang, không được tiêm phòng. Bạn không nên cho thỏ ăn dọc đường, vì chúng có thể mải ăn mà quên tránh những chiếc xe du lịch đang chạy đến. Đồ ăn cho thỏ chú ý để không bị quá hạn, hư hỏng… Khách không nên đặt thức ăn gần hang để tránh thu hút các động vật săn mồi khác, nên kiểm tra gầm xe trước khi khởi động, vì thỏ thường trú ẩn ở đó.
Trước khi về, hãy đổ đầy chảo nước đặt quanh đảo vì nước ở đây khan hiếm. Thỏ sống trên sườn đồi có thể sống nhờ nguồn nước suối, nhưng những con vật sống xung quanh khách sạn, quán cà phê thì không có nhiều nguồn nước để uống.
